In my late teens and early twenties, my musical taste was pretty hip. It was really touch and go before that, depending on what my friends were liking at the time. After having children, I went through a long stretch of listening to only my existing cds or classic rock stations. I already knew all the words so it was easy and comfortable. The classic rock songs were a reminder of my childhood. A few years ago my children became old enough to discover their own musical tastes and were able to program an mp3 player. It was for them I decided to start listening to newer music. I put on my old favourite alternative rock station, but was worried I would hate everything I heard.

To my extreme delight, that first day I heard not one, but two songs that I fell in love with. I was very excited at still being cool enough to love the newest hippest music, and as soon as I got home I looked up the songs to find out what my new favourite bands were. (By the way, I could love the internet just for all the lyric sites! There were so many time that I have asked, “What’s that song? The one that goes “blah, blah, blah… You know?” It’s amazing! I can find out in seconds!)

My reaction? You have got to be joking. You don’t really mean Weezer?!?! Although I was excited that Weezer had made a new album, it really didn’t prove my “I’m hip enough to like cool music” theory. I was technically probably just recognizing a sound that was already familiar. I had well-worn Weezer cds on my shelf from about TEN years ago.

I got my hopes up with my second song. I was not familiar with Gorillaz but I soon discovered with some research that the song Feelgood Inc. was a joint effort with one of my faves also from a decade ago, Blur and a band whose tape – that’s right, TAPE – that was given to me in grade 11, De La Soul.

I decided that I may not be hip on the newest music, but I still have super cool taste. And my kids are ahead of the game. Last fall I joined them for their first concert: The Who – of course, a comeback band.

As far as comeback bands go, a really hot comeback band this year: New Kids

The reunion concert tour will highlight the former New kids on the block songs as well as the new singles. During the late 1980s and early 1990s New Kids were known for their over-the-top concert tours, and the new performances will be no exception. Dazzling choreographed dancing, costume changes and stunning set design are planned for the new tour. Old and new fans alike will need to scour the Internet for cheap international tickets, as many concerts are already sold out.

The 5 Beantown boys have matured and aged in the 15 years since the last concert tour. The boy band members are now in their 30s and 40s. The new and updated New Kids on the Block have taken their old 1980s music styling to a new level with a fresh R&B sound. Popular R&B artist, Ne-Yo, Akon, Lady GaGa and the Pussycat Dolls appear on the new album giving “street cred” to the former wholesome boy band.

The still extremely popular band members, Danny, Donnie, Jonathan, Jordan and Joey hit the stage with their amazing voices and dance moves in tact. Popular 2006 Dancing With The Stars contestant, Joey McIntyre shows off his dancing talent during the band’s acts. Donnie Wahlberg and Joey McIntyre both forged successful acting careers during the time off.

Jordan Knight and Danny Wood continued to record a 1980s music genre with some success. Jonathan Knight, on the other hand spent the past decade working in real estate. Now that the five band members are reunited and once again on tour, they are appealing to their former fans, now middle aged, and a new generation of teens. The new song “Summertime” is now a popular teen ring tone. Perhaps a new line of New Kids on the Block lunchboxes or other nkotb merchandise is next on the horizon.

The New Kids on the Block reunion tour is scheduled to perform numerous concerts in the UK and Germany after its US tour. Girlicious, a new girl pop group, is the opening act for the tour. Many online booking agents have cheap international tickets available for the European concerts. The concerts are wowing fans with former musical hits such as, “Step by Step,” “Cover Girl,” “Tonight,” “I’ll be Loving You (Forever)” and “You Got it (The Right Stuff).”

The 1980s music sound of the New Kids still has the power to entertain and generate top Billboard singles. The album, The Block has already gone gold in Canada. With the music business experiencing a general decline in music sales, due to the cheap availability of online songs to download, the resurgence of the New Kids may be just what the music industry needs to spark excitement. The sales of New Kid’s cheap international tickets and CDs are just the beginning, for a band that once had licensed lunchboxes and a Saturday morning cartoon show.
